Power 105.1 beats Hot 97 in ratings, becoming number one, for the first time

For years, Power 105.1 and Hot 97 have been at war. Ironically, it all started when Jay-Z and Nas began going at it. With Hot 97, hip hop’s biggest radio station, supporting Jay-Z, Nas got the support of Power 105.1 and the rivalry began.

Until recent years, the battle appeared to be an easy win for Hot 97. But, when DJ Clue and DJ Envy left for Power 105.1, the rivalry began. Soon, the popularity of “The Breakfast Club” gave Power 105.1 the edge in the morning, but Angie Martinez joining the station was a big blow to Hot 97.

These moves have all counted towards a bigger goal Power 105.1 has. It looks like this goal is coming closer to completion. For the first time in station history, Power 105.1 has taken the overall number one spot and they have topped Hot 97 in ratings.
