Pop Smoke’s posthumous debut studio album ‘Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon’ was released last week and was heavily approved by fans of the late Brooklyn rapper. Prior to it’s release, the lead single “Make It Rain” feat. Rowdy Rebel was put out on June 12.
This project was on its way to debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and now, it’s official. According to Chart Data, it sold 248,000 units in its first week. This also marks the biggest posthumous No. 1 debut since Michael Jackson back in 2009, the year that he passed away.
Some of the hottest tracks to come out of Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon have been “For The Night” feat. Lil Baby & DaBaby,” “Something Special,” and “West Coast S*it” feat. Tyga Ana Quavo. Quavo was appeared on the album frequently as he was on three songs in total. Other artists featured invoiced Roddy Ricch, Swae Lee, Future, and 50 Cent, who served as executive producer.
50 has since said that he didn’t like how the people who were involved behind Smoke’s album have been moving so he won’t be available moving forward. There has also been more controversy on the album as the song “Paranoia” feat. Pusha T, Gunna and Young Thug was supposed to appear on it but didn’t due to some changes being made. Thug also had a problem with Pusha supposedly dissing Drake again on this song. This resulted in Pusha asking Smoke’s manager to remove him from the song. It was supposedly scheduled to appear on the deluxe edition for Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon. Nonetheless, Smoke got to No. 1 and he is looking down proudly.
Five arrests were also made in Smoke’s murder from February. Three men and two teens were handed down warrants. This comes months after investigations were LAPD couldn’t find potential witnesses due to false information or not wanting to speak.
