The 2021 Billboard Music Awards were held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday night as all of the stars were in the building. The Weeknd dominated with 10 wins out of his 16 nominations and performances also included SZA, Doja Cat, Weeknd, and more.
Some huge moments at the BBMAs for hip-hop on Sunday night were also Pop Smoke’s victories. There, he scored 10 nominations. The late Brooklyn rapper ended up scoring four wins, in some very impressive categories. These were in Top Billboard 200 Album, Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist, and Top Rap Male Artist.
Smoke’s 2020 poshtumous debut studio album, “Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon,” dominated last year. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was led by platinum hits such as “What You Know Bout Love,” “For The Night” feat. DaBaby and Lil Baby, and “Hello,” feat. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.
Smoke was shot and killed in February 2020 in a Hollywood Hills home, which at the time, was owned by “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, Teddi Mellencamp, and her husband, Edwin Arroyave. Four suspects ended up being charged with murder. Two suspects, a minor, and 20-year-old Corey Walker, also recently confessed their involvements as the teen was who pulled the trigger.
