Last week, Hot 97 came under much scrutiny. The station has been criticized for not playing the music of their local talent. On social networks, such New York rappers as Cliff Po have called the station out. Sean Price also had choice words for Hot 97, as did several hip hop websites.
One underground king in New York hip hop is Papoose. For over a decade, Papoose has unleashed independent albums and mixtapes with DJ Kay Slay. At one point, it looked like Papoose would gain mainstream fame. This was not the case, as he lacked the support of even his hometown’s radio station.
Sitting down with Hot 97, Papoose decided to unload on their lack of support for artists in New York City. Papoose engaged Hot 97 in an engaging discussion about not playing local artists. Moving on, Papoose also spoke on Remy Ma, his wife and former artist on Fat Joe’s Terror Squad roster.
