Despite being drafted in the post-Michael Jordan era, Paul Pierce was never among the wing players compared to His Airness. Still, Pierce carved out his own niche in the NBA. He was, for better or for worse, the leader of the Boston Celtics.
Early in his career, he led the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals, two division titles, and four straight playoff appearances. Later in his career, Paul Pierce received a gift from the basketball gods. The team made trades for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.
In 2008, Paul Pierce, with the help of his new teammates, led the Celtics to a championship against Kobe Bryant’s Lakers. Two years later, they would fall in seven to the same team. By 2013, Paul Pierce became a journeyman, playing for the Nets, then the Wizards, and now the Clippers, where he will retire, following this season and Twitter is paying homage.
