Obie Trice talks new music, 50 Cent, being shot, and more with Hot 97 [VIDEO]

Obie Trice Hot 97In the early 2000s, Eminem created Shady Records with Interscope and began putting rappers from Detroit on. First was Eminem’s own group, D12, and then he signed Obie Trice. While he was promoting his own music, Eminem began promoting Obie Trice.

The summer of 2002 was Eminem’s biggest year and he gave Obie Trice the spotlight in 2003. He emerged with Cheers, led by the comical lead single, “Got Some Teeth,” which is a classic. Soon, however, Obie Trice left the label, even after joining the Ja Rule rap war.

Obie Trice stopped by Hot 97, talking to Ebro, Laura Stylez, and Peter Rosenberg. During the interview, Obie Trice discussed the new music he has in the works, The Hangover, his latest album. He went on to discuss dropping his album the same year as 50 Cent, getting shot, and what led to him leaving the Shady/Interscope regime.
