The “New West” attacked the summer of 2011 and did not look back, once they began receiving mainstream attention. Artists Los Angeles had been hearing for years, such as Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, and Jay Rock, were now gracing the pages of national hip hop websites and magazines. However, before the phrase “New West” was coined, Nipsey Hussle was well on his way to being the next West Coast artist to emerge.

However, with the other rappers from the Los Angeles area entering the game and being met with such success, Nipsey Hussle somewhat faded into the background. Despite being a bit overshadowed, Nipsey Hussle has continued to work. His hard work is paying off, as he recently partnered with DJ Skee, landing him more features on Skee TV. Nipsey Hussle has also hit the road for more performances.

The recent stop in Arizona, however, did not go as expected. Before Nipsey Hussle had a chance to take the stage, shots rang out, cancelling the show. Law enforcement is searching for the two suspects, meanwhile Nipsey took to his Twitter to say “Az… y’all gotta be cool man. This shit ain’t right.”
