Last March, Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, was arrested by U.S Marshals. This was after he failed to register as a sex offender, after moving to California from New York. Petty was initially arrested in November 2019 for this, and still didn’t end up registering. This situation dates back to 1995, when he was convicted of first-degree attempted rape, and served four years.
Now, Petty is reaching a deal with prosecutors, in this situation, for failing to register. According to TMZ, court documents filed by prosecutors state that the feds are trying to receive a sentence, with the lightest punishment.
The mandator minimum sentence in this case is five years of supervised release. Petty reportedly took this sentence, due to him initially facing 10 years in prison, with a lifetime of supervised release. How many years that Petty ends up receiving, depends on the judge, who will review his criminal history.
Petty and Nicki ended up getting married in October 2019. The couple initially went public in December 2018. Social media was very criticial, and still are about this marriage. This is mostly due to Petty’s criminal charges.
