MY PRESIDENT IS BLACK: Hip Hop unites one last time for Barack Obama, wishing him well after eight years of service #ElectionDay

barack-obamaWith tonight being Election Day, it has really hit hip hop for the first time that Barack Obama is no longer president, as of January. It has been an amazing ride, as Obama was the first president to court the hip hop vote. He made history along the way, not just with race.

Ironically, there was a little tension between Young Jeezy and Nas, pre-2008, but they united for “My President.” But, hip hop knows that song is called “My President Is Black.” For good measure, Jay Z hopped on the remix.

Whether or not people supported Barack Obama or not, many were astounded by how he won. His presence revived the Democratic Party, which many gave up on after two heartbreakingly close elections in 2000 and 2004. But, Obama campaigned on hope and change, winning states like North Carolina, Indiana, and Virginia for the first time in a generation.

While Obama couldn’t hold on to Indiana, he proved North Carolina to be a true battleground state and held Virginia for the Democrats. Tonight, however, the focus is on Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, so hip hop is doing their part. They have united, one last time, for Obama, making “MY PRESIDENT IS BLACK” a trending topic.
