Migos have been signed to Quality Control Music since 2012 but their relationship may come to an end due to some serious legal issues. According to Variety, they are suing their lawyer as well as the label’s, Damien Granderson, for “abusing his position of trust as Migos’ fiduciary from the moment he was retained as Migos’ lawyer” and “cheated [the group] out of millions of dollars.” They also accused him of professional malpractice and unjust enrichment.
Migos is looking to win millions of dollars in court. When Granderson got Migos to leave 300 Entertainment for Capitol Records, the lawsuit states that this move cost the group millions of dollars as well. He also concealed from Migos that QC had an exclusive label deal with Capitol that “would allow Capitol to distribute all albums that QCM produced and that QCM was actually profiting far more handsomely than was apparent from the face of the documents that Granderson personally presented to Migos for immediate execution.”
The lawsuit added that Migos’ deal with QC “were, and are, extremely unreasonable.” QC CEO, Pierre “Pee” Thomas, has since taken to Instagram to deny any illegal practices at the label.
“It is unfortunate that the same people that we have worked hard for, provided opportunities for, and championed for are now alleging that we have participated in any kind of immoral or unfair business practices or took advantage of them and their careers, especially while we are dealing with the death of an artist on our label that was dear to us. We have always practiced honest business and complete transparency from the beginning when we started Quality Control Music”
