Mayor of DMX’s Hometown, Yonkers, NY, Welcomes His Family To Host Memorial at Yonkers Raceway

DMX passed away yesterday after being on life support for a week due to cardiac arrest he suffered. X was regarded by many as a hip-hop legend as fans celebrated his career and life all day. Tributes poured in online as well as outside of the White Plains, NY hospital he was being treated at.

Now, there are discussions regarding where X’s possible memorials could be. According to TMZ, those may happen in his hometown of Yonkers, NY. Sources close to X say that a private and public memorial is in the works as Mayor Mike Spano has also sent the invite to hold a service at Yonkers Raceway.

Yonkers Raceway usually operates as a horse racing venue. Spano added that this invite was made to help out X’s family in the midst of this challenging time. The venue could hold 7,500 people but New York protocols say that the capacity for this would have to be 25% of this number.

A rep for Yonkers Raceway has since told TMZ that no memorial requests have been made there yet. If X’s memorial does occur at this venue, it’d be their first event since the COVID-19 pandemic started as well.

In addition to the memorial, X may be honored in Yonkers with his own statue or street. This would be fitting considering that he’s a legend in the city as well as the state in general.
