In the 1990s, Maxwell rose to stardom, and he is one of the reasons neo soul became popular. Maxwell carved a lane for himself and he made hits. Early in his career, Maxwell had a hit in “Ascension,” which dominated during the summer of 1996.

Maxwell is best known for his single, “Fortunate,” taken from the Life soundtrack. That song is the biggest single of his career. During the summer of 1999, Maxwell had one of the hottest hits out. Two years later, Maxwell enjoyed the success of his single, “Lifetime.”

At Black Girls Rock 2017, Maxwell talked to Hip-HopVibe about his hip hop knowledge. He was asked questions about various artists in the game. Maxwell knew a little more than most would expect, given the era he is from. Then again, anyone who has ever attended a Maxwell concert isn’t terribly surprised at what he will do, what he will say, or what he knows. The most recent Maxwell concert led to him trending on Twitter.

On Twitter, Maxwell is trending after clips from his most recent concert went viral. Maxwell was out there dancing and almost twerking. The way he was bending his knees had fans calling him “Maxwell Thee Stallion.” There were some people who said that Megan Thee Stallion needs to come and challenge him.
