Marvel Announces the Return of Natalie Portman as the First Female Thor at #SDCC

If you thought Marvel was done after the blockbuster hit Avengers Endgame, think again. Just earlier this evening at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel head Kevin Feige made a slew of big movie announcements in regards to Phase 4 of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). One of the big movies planned is the fourth Thor movie titles ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.

In a big twist in the hall H panel, one Oscar winning star made a surprise appearance confirming her return to a fan favorite role within the Thor franchise. Natalie Portman was a surprise guest after director Taika Waititi brought her to the stage and announced that she would be the first female Thor in the next movie. This news is being met with a lot of excitement given the history between Portman and Marvel. Portman first appeared in the MCU as Jane Foster. Things got rocky between the two after the second Thor movie. Portman was displeased with the direction of the film and the female director, Patty Jenkins, being fired before shooting begun. Since then Portman has been absent from the MCU citing her displeasure of just playing a superheroes love interest. However now it seems like things are patched up. With the new emphasis on female lead and female centered story telling within the MCU, it looks like this is right timing for Portman to make her return.
