It’s amazing to see someone rise the ranks and gain position in the game after working for so long. Five years ago, this was J. Cole, but he ended up being the first artist Jay-Z signed to Roc Nation. But, when J. Cole was coming up as a fan of hip hop, he preferred Nas.
Thankfully, Jay-Z and Nas ended their beef by the time J. Cole found his way into the game. Both legends saw something in J. Cole and he’s spent the bulk of his career paying homage to both rappers. Last summer, J. Cole released his Born Sinner album and he included, “Let Nas Down,” reflecting on making pop singles.
Nas responded to this with “Made Nas Proud,” telling J. Cole he has nothing to be ashamed of. However, J. Cole decided he would reach out to Nas once more at the 2014 VIBE Awards. When J. Cole took the podium, he conducted a speech and it was dedicated to Nas as he spoke to him about his admiration and much more.
