Hip hop’s biggest breakout artists in recent years was Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, the rap duo from Seattle. As much as they got critical acclaim for their music, many hip hop heads simply disliked Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Heading into Grammy season, a lot of hip hop fans felt they would win Best Rap Album.

Many believe Kendrick Lamar deserved top honors at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, but felt Macklemore and Ryan Lewis would win. Their “Same Love” single has gotten a lot of love over the past year. Seeing how they won the VMAs in 2013, most felt they would sweep the Grammys.

Now, the awards are in and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis did indeed sweep the Grammys. They have taken home Grammys for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and also Best New Artist. This news doesn’t come as much of a surprise and is likely to shape the hip hop news of the next week.
