Putting Seattle hip hop on the map, Macklemore has become a dominating force in the rap game. Though Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are no PSY by any stretch of the mind, they have achieved YouTube fame.
“Thrift Shop” hit YouTube during the summer of 2012 and the song has since appeared on many of the biggest music television outlets. While some have written Macklemore and Ryan Lewis off as corny, they have reached new heights. Among the supporters of their music is Ellen DeGeneres, who featured them on her show.
Indeed, life has been “awesome” for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, especially over the past seven months. “Thrift Shop” has done incredibly well and has continued to break records. Now, Macklemore can celebrate his single going platinum five times over, yes, quintuple platinum.
