Two years ago, Lizzo brought something new to the game, and she won big off it. In 2019, she was one of a handful of breakout artists. Unlike the others, her 2019 momentum carried her throughout 2020 and “Rumors” is her official return to work.
Lizzo dropped “Rumors,” featuring Cardi B, and the song was an immediate success. However, after the song’s release, she was upset, crying on IG Live. It turns out, there were people making cruel comments about her weight, along with racist comments.
While Lizzo did receive taunts, after the “Rumors” release, it created publicity. This led to the song debuting at number four, on Billboard Hot 100, and reaching number one on their R&B/Hip Hop charts. On Twitter, she posted the above photo, as she celebrated her Cardi B-assisted single going number one.
