Lil Wayne released his highly anticipated “Funeral” album at the end of January and to many fans, it was solid after a very successful release of “Tha Carter V” in 2018. This was after years of delays due to dealing with issues getting through Birdman to release music. He did prove though that he’s still got it as this project featured fan-favorites such as “I Do It” featuring Big Sean and Lil Baby along with “Mahogany.”
Young Money’s Mack Maine is now revealing in a new interview with Complex that Funeral should’ve originally featured DaBaby and Young Thug on it. Mack cites clearance issues with DaBaby’s verse and as far as Thug, his verse was from 2017 so he wanted to record an updated version.
Maine described the collaboration between Thug and Wayne as a “Monster.” He also gave DaBaby props for always shouting Wayne out and mentioning his influence on his career. Maine added that Wayne likes Baby’s flow as well so the chemistry was organic. Among the other star-studded features on Funeral were Jay Rock, Adam Levine, 2 Chainz, Takeoff, The Dream, XXXTentacion, and O.T Genasis. Nonetheless, Maine said that these two collabs should happen soon.
