Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” Single With Billy Ray Cyrus Reaches 14x Platinum Status

In the spring of 2019, Lil Nas X became a superstar after the release of his “Old Town Road” single. Shockingly, Billboard removed the record from the country chart due to it supposedly not meeting the genre’s requirements. This was viewed by many as racist on Billboard’s end. Soon, Nas X put out the remix featuring country legend, Billy Ray Cyrus, and the only was was up from there.

Old Town Road remix soon skyrocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Two years later, it continues to post massive numbers as now, it has been certified 14x platinum by the RIAA in the US, according to Chart Data. This is after selling 14 million units.

At the 2020 GRAMMYs, Old Town Road feat. Billy Ray won the awards for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video. It was also nominated for Record Of The Year. There were additional remixes but the other one people remembered as well was the one which included Young Thug and Mason Ramsey.

Nas X has since created other hits such as “Panini” in 2019 and “Holiday” this past December. This was in perfect timing for the holiday season and is already at gold status.
