Lil Nas X’s Breakout Hit Single “Old Town Road” Featuring Billy Ray Cyrus Officially Certified Diamond and Becomes First Song of 2019 To Do So

Lil Nas X definitely had the biggest record of 2019 with “Old Town Road.” It was originally released in December of 2018 but picked up steam this year. This was after Nas X signed to Columbia Records and they put out the song again under their label. Old Town Road features a mix of country/hip-hop and ended up on the Billboard country charts but was taken off due to it supposedly not fitting the country genre. This enraged fans but the Atlanta native quickly enlisted country legend, Billy Ray Cyrus on the remix and things really took off at that point.

Old Town Road broke the Billboard record for consecutive weeks on the top spot of the Hot 100 chart at 17 weeks. It’s reign lasted 19 weeks. The song that it broke the record from was the duet “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men. Now, another major milestone is here for Nas X and Billy Ray as it is now certified diamond by the RIAA. Old Town Road is the first song of 2019 to go diamond as well.

The diamond achievement for Old Town Road also breaks the RIAA’s minimum requirement of 10,000,000 sold in the fastest time frame. in Both the original and remix with Billy Ray appeared on Nas X’s debut EP, “7” which released this past summer. A second remix for Old Town Road was also released separately which featured Young Thug and Mason Ramsey. The 7 project also contained another fan favorite hit with “Panini.”

Nas X also made headlines this summer for coming out as gay He made the announcement on Twitter and that fans should’ve seen the signs based on the Panini music video.
