Often, the acclaimed moguls in hip hop are Diddy, Jay Z, and Dr. Dre, but guys like Russell Simmons, L.A. Reid, and Andre Harrell came before them. In many cases, they worked with and opened doors for the newer executives. This is especially L.A. Reid’s case.
Business-wise, L.A. Reid worked with Jay Z at Def Jam. Prior to this, he launched LaFace Records with Babyface. There, he worked with TLC, Toni Braxton, Boyz II Men, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, and many others. He also worked with Rihanna, early in her career on Def Jam.
This morning, L.A. Reid sat down with “The Breakfast Club” and talked to DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne Tha God. Now working with the likes of Future, L.A. Reid discussed his history at LaFace, being an artist, on up to his work at Def Jam. He broke down how he has been successful in the music industry.
