West Coast hip hop, specifically Los Angeles hip hop, has been redefined. There are several rappers responsible for this shift, but most only know Kendrick Lamar. A popular mixtape rapper, Kendrick Lamar turned heads with his Section.80 album. Catching the attention of both Game and Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar soon met with Dr. Dre.
Signing with Aftermath Entertainment, Kendrick Lamar dropped good kid, m.A.A.d. city during the fall of 2012. Making a strong debut, Kendrick Lamar is still promoting his debut album and he will continue to do so. The next single off the album is “Poetic Justice,” which features Drake.
Kendrick Lamar brought this song, and his others, to New York City when he made his debut on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” One of the special musical guests, Kendrick Lamar performed his initial hit, “Swimming Pools (Drank),” along with his follow-up singles. So far, mostly everyone has been impressed with Kendrick Lamar’s work and this streak continued when he visited “SNL.”
