Since 2009, a wave of “real” lyricism has taken a huge faction within the overall hip hop world. Many rappers represent this sub-genre, but their leader is Kendrick Lamar. Back in 2011, he established this, as he earned co-signs from Game and Snoop Dogg.
Kendrick Lamar would not disappoint, as they introduced him to Dr. Dre and the rest is history. good kid, m.A.A.d. city became a classic album and went platinum, upon its 2012 release. Following this came the 2015 classic, To Pimp A Butterfly.
His follow-up to the 2015 album would not be as long of a wait. Once again, Kendrick Lamar made the album title a mystery. But, DAMN was the chosen album title and Kendrick Lamar has now gone platinum for a third straight time with this album, allowing him to join Drake and Nicki Minaj as new-era rappers to achieve this feat.
