With all of the talk about Cardi B, it is easy to forget K. Michelle, even though she was the OG “Love & Hip Hop” star to make it big in music. It has been an incredible journey for K, as she has grown. Her career has gone through several ups and downs.
As R&B has began to shift, K. Michelle is credited for helping to keep it alive. She, alongside Sevyn Streeter, SZA, and Kehlani have sounds that hearken back to the golden era. But, K. Michelle has tried to be clear that her music is not defined by genre.
K. Michelle, last night, attended a Chris Stapleton concert, and he allowed her to perform with him. Backstage, she shared her story of labels trying to box her in, and he gave her sound advice. According to her, Chris Stapleton told K. Michelle that she should sing country, with the voice she has.
