The official news story says “Deputy shoots armed man in parking lot of The Florida Mall.” However, there is much more to it than that. A man is dead and Salaythis Mathis is the person who was killed, even after everything that has gone on, this summer.

Salaythis Mathis’ death is arguably worse than the George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks murders. At least, the police were called for those men, even though their deaths were wrong. In the case of Mathis, he wasn’t even the police’s intended target.

A case of mistaken identity, Salaythis Mathis “fit the description” of a man who had an active warrant. An Orange County deputy sheriff found the young Mathis, at The Florida Mall, and demanded to see his information. Things took a negative turn, Mathis attempted to run, and was shot and killed, leaving his family and friends heartbroken, and demanding justice.
