Though not on the same level, before 50 Cent and G-Unit, it was Cam’ron and The Diplomats who dominated New York hip hop on the mixtape level. At various times, Cam’ron had major label deals, but had not broken through. Facing obstacles, Cam’ron took it back to the streets and he began working with business partner, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana.

Cam’ron’s grind paid off and his longtime friend, Damon Dash, took notice and signed him and the Diplomat Records to Roc-A-Fella Records. In the past, Cam’ron and Jay-Z had not quite seen eye-to-eye, but were forced to put this to the side. Cam’ron and The Diplomats would be able to put Diplomatic Immunity out before wearing out their welcome at the Roc.

Hard to believe, but it has been ten years since The Diplomats released their album. At the time, it looked as if a legacy had been born. In many ways, the legacy was born, but all most can think of is what could have been. On the tenth anniversary, Jim Jones talked to DJ Whoo Kid on Shade 45 about the Diplomats’ reunion concert and the Diplomatic Immunity album.
