HHV Exclusive: Jay Sean talks “The Mistress II” and Cash Money departure with DJ Louie Styles

Jay Sean HHVIn 2008, Cash Money Records proved their power in the industry when they signed Jay Sean, the popular UK singer. With the ever-expanding roster, however, it was easy to forget Jay Sean being on the label. He reminded fans, periodically, however.

Jay Sean released Neon, his most-recent album, in 2013, and he released his new mixtape, The Mistress II, a week before Thanksgiving. A month before this mixtape release, Jay Sean announced he was leaving Cash Money Records after six years. This fueled rumors about the label.

Hip Hop Vibe’s DJ Louie Styles visited Jay Sean at his New Jersey home and they addressed these topics. With BB Photography behind the camera, Jay Sean talked to DJ Louie Styles about The Mistress II, both the overall concept and why he put his album out as a mixtape. Jay Sean went on to explain that a lack of love and support is why he left Cash Money, as it was depriving his international audience of his music, but that he will always appreciate them for the success he had with them and the opportunities they created for him.
