Last week, Heavy D made headlines when the world learned of his death. The 44-year-old rapper had last performed at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards. Over the past few years, Heavy D had settled into the background of the hip hop scene. Still, his contributions will live on forever, as Heavy D helped many of the current power-players in hip hop.
Heavy D will be available for public viewing by family and friends in Mount Vernon, New York, the rapper’s hometown, from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm on November 17. The following day, the actual service will be held. Heavy D’s funeral will be held at Grace Baptist Church, which is also located in the hometown of Mount Vernon.
Recent reports say Heavy D could have possibly been suffering from pneumonia, as he had a rough cough and was suffering from shortness of breath. Despite talking with the people who came to help him and being alert on the ambulance, Heavy D died in the hospital. Heavy D, during his peak, was signed to Uptown Records.
