These past two years have taught people that everybody is a part of the political system. Two years ago, the assumption was that the current president would lose. That same assumption led to him being elected president, despite not winning the popular vote.
Since then, millions of people, youth and minorities, have become politically active. Yesterday, the new members of Congress were sworn in, and they were the most-diverse in US history. More demographics than ever are now represented.
Their arrival is coming, just in time, as the US government is shut down, again. By electing people to office, the people are expecting things to run smoothly, which hasn’t happened, in the past two years. Now, it is impacting most people’s money, as the shutdown has led to income tax returns not being released until the shutdown is resolved.
