In 2011, Young Jeezy had been all but forgotten and he was in need of a major shot in the arm. Though he had been a popular rapper, Young Jeezy received little to no attention for his track record as a label head. With Freddie Gibbs, this was set to change when he signed him two years ago.

Freddie Gibbs hit the ground running and kept new music coming out. Being one of the first hip hop representatives from Gary, Indiana, Freddie Gibbs stuck out for various reasons. Instead of working with Southern and Midwestern artists, Gibbs held numerous collaborations with Madlib.

Last fall, Young Jeezy and his Corporate Thugz label came under quite a bit of controversy from all angles. In the midst of this, Freddie Gibbs had yet to release his debut album, so he left Young Jeezy and CTE. But, when Freddie Gibbs talked to Sama’an Ashrawi, he talked about UGK.
