Only in Florida right?
A woman in the great Sunshine State of Florida is being held without bail after attempting to kill her four children in a self inflicted car crash.
36-year-old Calicia Williams was driving in a white Pontiac minivan when she told her four children to unfasten their seat belts and stretch their arms out before crashing into a tree. Williams believed that her husband put a “hex” which caused her to crash the car. She apparently did this in an attempt to save her children from this supposed curse. According to investigators, as the children yelled for her to slow down, she responded by saying “The devil can’t hurt you, he only hurts bad people. You have the light of Jesus in you and only Jesus can cure us.”
When Ocala Police arrived at the 800 block of SE 31st last week Tuesday, they saw four young children, ages 7 to 13, inside the car wearing no seatbelts. Williams had burns and bruises on her neck, indicating that she had her sratbelt on at the time of the crash,
After examining the scene, investigators found evidence which indicated that Williams did not attempt to brake before crashing into the tree. It also appeared that she directly targeted the passenger side of the vehicle on impact.
Thankfully, all of the children survived the head on collision. Ocala Police Department spokeswoman Corie Byrd gave a status update after first responders arrived.
“These kids are very, very lucky to be alive,” Byrd said. “It makes you want to hold your kids tight, and it’s unfathomable why a mother would want to do this. Hopefully, this mother gets the help that she needs and the kids get the help that they need.”
The four children were taken to Gainesville’s UF Health Shands Hospital to be treated for trauma. Williams is now facing four counts of attempted murder. Once she’s discharged from the hospital, she will be held at the Marion County Jail without bail.
