Long before “Basketball Wives,” “Love & Hip Hop,” “Black Ink Crew,” and their spinoffs, VH1 struck gold with “Flavor of Love.” Prior to then, the VH1 network was a struggling music channel. They took a chance on “The Surreal Life,” where Flavor Flav returned to stardom.
His romance with Brigette Neilsen made history for the VH1 network, at the time. Their ratings would soar when Flavor Flav and Neilsen broke up. This set up the “Flavor of Love” spinoff for 2006, which would become a classic.
This era of VH1 would come to an immediate halt, as the controversy from “Megan Wants a Millionaire” forced everyone to regroup. But, last year, VH1 brought these shows back in celebration of Valentine’s Day. This week, “Flavor of Love” has returned to the channel and fans are enjoying it, reliving many moments, such as the girl who said she looks like Beyonce.
