First Week Sales: Kanye West, J. Cole, and Mac Miller

Last week was a good one for music, with albums coming out from three of hip hop’s biggest names right now. Fans definitely had Kanye West, J. Cole, and Mac Miller on the brain, as each of them had new offerings. All three artists find themselves in transitions in their careers.

In the case of Kanye West, he is the veteran who now sits on top of the rap game and is finding ways to be creative. With Yeezus, Kanye West accomplished everything he wanted to in terms of going outside of the box. But, where J. Cole and Mac Miller are concerned, it is the rookies transitioning into veterans.

Yeezus, Born Sinner, and Watching Movies with the Sound Off were all dope albums and the projections were all over the place. But, Kanye West came out on top, moving 328,000 copies, J. Cole narrowly trailed with 297,000, and Mac Miller was in third with 101,000 copies sold in their first week. Indeed a big hip hop week.
