Many shows gain a reputation for being a guilty pleasure, or something people watch behind closed doors. But, “Empire” bucks all of those trends. Close to 20 million people, each week view “Empire” and also discuss it on social media.
With “Empire,” starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, becoming a ratings juggernaut, a few other hip hop-related shows are emerging. The leader of them is “Atlanta,” starring Childish Gambino. A strong show, yes, but “Empire” is the original hit.
Tonight, “Empire” returns and fans are flooding Twitter, already. The anticipation for the season premiere is high. In order to make the time go by faster, some fans are even recounting their favorite moments from the series, thus far, with the Cookie/Anika (Henson, Grace Gealey) fight being among them.
