The NBA Draft went down on July 29, and there were definitely some great talent, even after Cade Cunningham went first overall to the Detroit Pistons. At number four, the Raptors selected Scottie Barnes out of Florida State and Dalano Banton, out of Nebraska. Banton was also born in Toronto
Drake is also still a global ambassador for his hometown Raptors as well. On Sunday evening, Drake posted photos of himself with Barnes and Banton, as he said “My YGz are readyyy.” Drake is frequently at Raptors games, and was also an ambassador when the team won the NBA Finals in 2019, over the Golden State Warriors.
The Raptors failed to make the playoffs this season though, as they stood at 12th in the East, at 27-45. There is also speculation that Kyle Lowry could leave in free agency, after nine seasons with the team. It’ll be interesting to see if Drake is able to. convince him to stay, but in the meantime, Toronto definitely scored him nice young talent in this draft.
