Today was a very tough one in hip-hop as the genre lost one of its biggest stars ever in DMX. The New York rapper had been on life support for a week after suffering a reported heart attack. His brain function unfortunately didn’t improve at all after tests were conducted on Wednesday. A prayer vigil was held outside of the White Plains hospital he was being taken care of by staff members and his family began flying in on Tuesday.
Fans on social media have since began paying homage to this legend and in White Plains, the tributes are pouring in outside of the hospital as well. According to to TMZ, a makeshift memorial was created. Among the items left for X were candles, flowers, and stuffed animals. Notes of support were also provided. Fans also began to play some of X’s classic music in his memory.
Last night, things worsened as X’s organs began to fail as well as his liver and kidneys. The expectation that a decision would be made on Friday whether or not to take X off of life support. That decision was reportedly left to his mother in the end to make, obviously a very difficult one.
Fans have also since celebrated DMX’s music online. This includes his accomplishments of five consecutive No. 1 albums as well as his epic performance at Woodstock in 1999.
