Originally, hip hop was all about the DJ, and the emcee was only to hype the DJ. But, hip hop, as currently constructed, is all about the rapper, and the DJ fits in later, much later. Some say this isn’t the way hip hop should be, DJ Jazzy Jeff, out of all people, disagrees.
DJ Jazzy Jeff is the man credited with bringing hip hop to Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love. Together with The Fresh Prince, better known as Will Smith, they brought something new to the table. The duo made hit records and helped create an iconic, generational, sitcom.
Recently, DJ Jazzy Jeff talked to N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN for another edition of “Drink Champs.” The interview, which was filled with N.O.R.E. being himself, saw Jazzy Jeff speak on how he and Will Smith met, knowing Will’s potential early, the Philly support, being older, and much more. Jazzy Jeff provided an insightful take that most OGs wouldn’t as willingly offer up.
