One month before the release of his Unexpected Arrival debut, Diggy Simmons continues to live up to the name. Since he burst onto the scene, in 2010, Diggy Simmons has had the attention of the hip hop world. To be fair, this attention comes from his ancestry, as his father is Run, from Run-DMC, and his uncle is Def Jam founder, Russell Simmons. As televised on “Run’s House,” both Rev Run and Russell Simmons warned the children about entering the music business.

Neither JoJo, nor Diggy Simmons were deterred by the horror stories and they decided to pursue their own careers. Because of who they are, both entered the game with buzz, but Diggy Simmons was able to sustain his buzz. Diggy Simmons has created a style of his own, delivering radio-friendly songs in which fans of all ages can enjoy. During an October 2011 interview, Diggy Simmons said he will never curse on any of his songs, he feels he can get the point across without doing so.

Diggy Simmons has enjoyed an impressive run, being nominated for a BET Hip Hop Award, named one of the XXL Freshmen in 2011, and enjoying two successful singles. Now, Diggy Simmons has another notch under his belt, winning the NAACP Image Award for ‘Outstanding New Artist.’
