Dating back to when Forbes began tracking hip hop earnings and earners, Diddy topped the list. Soon to accompany him on this list is Jay Z, who topped it frequently, over the years. Recent years have seen Diddy reclaim the number one spot.

Dr. Dre took the crown in 2014, following a lot of major business moves he made. By far, the biggest business move Dr. Dre made was the deal with Beats by Dre and Apple. The $3 billion deal brought $800 million to Dr. Dre.

In 2016, Diddy is back on top of the list, checking in at $750 million and the aforementioned Dr. Dre is at number two at $710 million. TIDAL chief, Jay Z, is third on the list at $610 million, while Birdman is at number four with $110 million. Drake rounds out the top five at $60 million.
