Barriers are somewhat broken, as in there is diversity and representation in television. But, these barriers have not been broken for as long as some may believe. It wasn’t until 1984, when a black woman starred in her own series.
Diahann Carroll was the woman who went in and broke down that door for all the ladies who have followed her. She was on “Dynasty” and she proved what the culture already knew, black women are gold. The whole world was influenced by the standard that she set.
This morning, news broke that Diahann Carroll’s days of breaking down barriers are over. However, the legacy she leaves behind will live on forever. As Diahann Carroll has died at the age of 84, people are taking to Twitter, fans and celebrities, alike, to pay homage to the icon.
