Friday was one of the craziest days of 2020 as protests and riots ensued all over America due to former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, killing unarmed black man, George Floyd, on Monday night by keeping his knee on his neck for almost nine minutes. Three other cops on the scene also helped Chauvin. He was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter but the public rightfully believes that it should’ve bee first-degree for stricter charges. He is still in custody on $500,000 bail.
Hopefully, Floyd does get justice with all four of these cops being in prison for a very long time. More bad news is heading towards Chauvin’s way though as his wife, Kellie, is divorcing him after 10 years of marriage, per NBC News. She expressed devastation after hearing that her husband killed Floyd earlier this week.
“Her utmost sympathy lies with [Floyd’s] family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy,” said a rep for Kellie in a statement “While Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time.”
This was definitely the right decision by Kellie. Staying married to a heartless white supremacist like Derek is a horrible thing to do. It’s evident that she didn’t want this to happen to Floyd or have his loved ones go through this pain.
