Damon Dash and Kanye West lose out on Karmaloop to senior lenders, Comvest Capital and CapX Partners

This year has been the return of Damon Dash, the man who helped build one of hip hop’s biggest dynasties. Alongside Jay Z, Damon Dash built the Roc-A-Fella Records brand into the force it was. In 2004, the label was bought out by Def Jam and is now barely active.

Earlier this spring, Freeway talked to Hip Hop Vibe about his experience being a part of Roc-A-Fella Records during their peak. Clearly, this was a special time for the label. Describing it, Freeway said it was the best time ever and he performed with Jay Z and Beanie Sigel since then.

As for the other former Roc-A-Fella head, Damon Dash partnered with another former Roc artist, Kanye West. The two have a film company and were investing in Karmaloop. Despite claims of them purchasing the brand, it turns out Comvest Capital and CapX Partners made the buy.
