Due to his high-selling albums, Lil Wayne is the biggest artist in the game and this has cast a major light on the New Orleans hip hop scene. New Orleans is a city known for its musical background. Jazz music is what New Orleans initially was known for, but also has a strong hip hop scene.

Overlooked by the masses since the late 1990s, there are many rising New Orleans rappers making moves. Curren$y is an artist who releases more music than Lil Wayne and is giving him a run for his money. The irony in the situation is Curren$y’s first major deal came when he signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money.

Long since moved on, Curren$y is now signed to Warner Bros. Records. Releasing new material every few months, Curren$y released Cigarette Boats with Harry Fraud. The project had a strong critical reaction and XXL named it EP of the Year. Curren$y recently released a video of him accepting the award.
