College Course About The Weeknd and Drake, Will Be Taught at Ryerson University, in Toronto, in 2022

The Weeknd and Drake are two of the biggest superstars in the world, and are also two of the biggest celebrities to come out of Toronto. These two icons have made such an impact to the point where they are now being taught about, in Toronto.

According to HipHopDX, Toronto-based writer, podcaster, and Hip-Hop scholar Dalton Higgins, will be teaching a course about these artists, at Ryerson University, in early 2022. Drake and The Weeknd’s careers will be discussed, as well as how they’ve impacted the music scene, in Toronto. The title of this course is “RTA 950: Deconstructing Drake and The Weeknd?”

“It’s time to get our Canadian rap & R&B icons recognized & canonized academically or otherwise,” said Higgins, on Instagram “And it is CRITICAL for scholars, historians, to examine the Toronto music scene that birthed Drake/Weeknd and helped create the conditions for them to become mega successful.”

Higgins has also taught pop culture and hip-hop at other universities in Toronto, such as the University of Toronto, and York University. He also emphasized how he think it’s important to teach about Drake and The Weeknd, the way other artists have been taught about, such as Miley Cyrus, Bruce Springsteen, and Lady Gaga.
