It’s an unfortunate moment that black reporters know all too well.
Two reporters for WHEREISTHEBUZZ were on the red carpet at the John Wick 3 premiere, and of course they were waiting for the chance to interview one of the stars of the movie, Halle Berry. Halle went down the line interviewing with every outlet, but when it came time for an interview with the only two black reporters there, Halle’s PR told them that she wouldn’t have enough time to stop and talk to them.
The reporter said that Halle looked over at them and told her PR “I can’t skip my brother and my sister” and came right over to them for an interview. What Halle did may not seem like a lot, but she made time for minorities on the red carpet. They might’ve needed her interview more than some of the other outlets and she didn’t let them get thrown away.
I have had this same thing happen to me, even at a black event. You’ll watch as every white face and network gets interviews on the red carpet, and when you think you’ll be able to get one, you don’t. We need more celebrities to speak up against this. Black reporters deserve the same respect as white ones. More celebrities should start their interviews with smaller black companies and help them break through in this industry.
