BET cancels “106 & Park” after four year run, plans to use brand online and for special events

Bow Wow Keshia ChanteFourteen years ago, “106 & Park” premiered on BET with AJ and Free as the hosts. Almost immediately, the show became the centerpiece of the network and one of hip hop’s leading programs. During this period, MTV recently ended the run of “Yo! MTV Raps,” so many fans flocked to “106 & Park” and it’s format won fans over.

Most consider the AJ and Free era, 2000-2005 as the best period of the show. However, there were good moments with Big Tigger and Julissa, 2005-2006, and Terrence and Rocsi, 2006-2012, made the show their own. Once they left, Bow Wow, 2012-present, and eventually Keshia Chante, 2013-present, found their own groove with the show.

Whatever groove Bow Wow Shad Moss and Keshia Chante found with “106 & Park” is ending. Stephen Hill released an official statement announcing the cancellation and applauding “106 & Park” for its legacy. The final episode is December 19, but it will return for the annual “106 & Party” New Year’s celebration and will live on via BET.com.
