Azealia Banks took to Instagram yesterday to air her frustration with Nicki Minaj’s perspective on who should be number one. “Nicki isn’t even saying anything smart,” shared Banks. This is not the first time Banks has used her mega-popular Instagram story to stir-the-pot and while her chagrin here seems to be shared by even Nicki’s supporters, Banks herself seems a bit contradictory.
This screen shot of her Instagram story is viral on Twitter with comments ranging from “a broken clock is right twice a day,” to “she was just cosigning 69 in June.” Interestingly enough, Nicki’s arguments (there are many of them as of late) don’t seem to be directly aimed at Cardi B at all.
Nicki has stated that her issue is with Billboard’s calculations of what makes an album number one. She infamously joked just last night at the Video Music Awards about her “beef with Stormi, a baby”. In reality, Astroworld took the number one spot on Billboard Top 100 the week that Queen dropped. Nicki charges that Travis Scott was “selling clothes” instead of selling music. It is worth noting that all merchandise sold on Nicki Minaj’s website is bundled with her album as well.
Azealia Banks could be onto something, but as usual, her message is mired in hypocrisy and hate.
