A decision on if charges would be made in the killing of 27-year-old black man, Rayshard Brooks, in Atlanta would be made today. The initial incident came after a Wendy’s called police to let them know that Brooks was asleep in their drive-thru. The officer who shot him was a white officer, Garrett Rolfe.  The other white cop who helped wrestle Brooks down was Devin Brosnan. This was after they claimed they gave him a sobriety test which he failed. Their interaction was peaceful and cooperative but it resulted in them tackling Brooks, him reaching for their taser to protect himself, and running away. He was shot twice in the back and died when he had emergency surgery. Footage also showed Rolfe kicking Brooks while he was shot while Brosnan stood on his shoulder.

The decision has arrived as Wolfe will now be charged with felony murder along with 10 other charges, according to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard in a press conference that just concluded. He would also not be eligible for parole. Brosnan will be hit with an aggravated assault charge. Arrest warrants are out and they must turn themselves in by Thursday.

The felony murder charge for Rolfe could have a life or death sentence. Aggravated assault and violation of oath is two out of the three charges handed down to Brosnan. These are all huge steps towards justice for Brooks but we need convictions and prison sentences. Check out the full list of charges for both former Atlanta Police Department officers below.
