Ten years ago, DJ Khaled made a big jump in his career that was considered risky. After working to become the top DJ on Miami’s hip hop scene, DJ Khaled decided to go national. Already close to Fat Joe, he cashed in those contacts to release an album.
By 2007, DJ Khaled had two albums out, collaborations with the top rappers in the South, and a deal on the table. DJ Khaled took an executive position with Def Jam and started the We The Best label. He would then sign Ace Hood to be the label’s main artist.
DJ Khaled has since moved on from Def Jam and Epic Records is his new label home, meaning he reports to L.A. Reid. In addition to this, Jay Z is his manager and they have a single with Future coming off Major Key, Khaled’s ninth album. But, Khaled announced another single, “For Free” featuring Drake, via Instagram, coming soon, also.
