This winter, ABC took a big risk bringing “American Idol” back. With their rebrand, they took a major jab at FOX, “American Idol’s” original network. Their promos said “American Idol” on America’s network, which is likely poking fun at FOX’s outsider status.

FOX has moved on with the music competition shows. They opened the year of 2018, with “The Four,” which is hosted by Fergie, and also boasts DJ Khaled, Diddy, and Meghan Trainor as judges. That show was a massive hit, early this year.

After “The Four” wrapped for season one, “American Idol” made its return, on ABC. There, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie are the headlining names. But, there are rumors that ABC is preparing to cancel the show, due to the low ratings, and that producers believe Katy Perry is hurting the ratings.
